Alignment Suits

Children with a wide variety of conditions may present with low muscle tone (hypotonia). Low tone can affect a child’s ability to sit up properly, hold up their head while sitting, stand, and walk. Alignment suits such as SPIO (Stabilizing Pressure Input Orthosis), Benik vests and braces, Thera Togs, and Fabriform wraps/straps can provide multidirectional support and compression to help improve a child’s posture, joint alignment, as well as, provide a deep compression increasing body awareness and improve sensory processing.

Deep compression provided with alignment suits can increase a child’s body awareness, allowing better consciousness of where their arms and legs are in space. Enhanced body awareness can impact a child’s balance and coordination, helping them move throughout their environment safely. Additionally, alignment suits can help provide postural support at a child’s trunk. Trunk stability directly correlates improved head control and functional movement of arms and legs.

Derotation straps can be used for children who walk with their feet turned inward (in-toeing) or outward (out-toeing). Wrapping the child’s leg in a derotation strap provides counter forces to improve the alignment of the leg, allowing for better walking mechanics and strengthening within improved alignment.

Uses and Benefits:
