SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS

Social skills groups are designed to help children with all types of learning and behavior issues learn how to interact appropriately with other kids their age. A few of the important skills that children will learn in this type of group are conversational, friendship, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, social skills groups help children learn how to control their emotions and see situations from another perspective.

Generally, the therapist will lead children in this group through exercises to learn the skills needed to deal with whatever social challenges they have been experiencing. Since the children are in a group setting with others their age, they have the opportunity to role-play or practice social skills and then get feedback on how they're doing. The therapist can also provide the parents or guardians with certain exercises so that the children may continue improving their social skills at home.
